Can you check my website text for any possible mistakes?

If you are unsure whether the wording for your website is correct for spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary then I can reassure you. Obviously, you want your website to look its best, regardless of whether it’s for business or personal use. In other words, you want readers to respect the hard work and time you have invested in constructing your website and, naturally, you hope they will return on a regular basis. Consequently, one way to ensure that they do is by using the English language correctly, and that’s where I can come to your aid.

Either email me with your draft wording, as an attachment if you prefer, or simply supply your website URL. I will then proofread your writing and, if necessary, edit the text to improve it. However, if you feel uncomfortable writing the information for your website, I’m prepared to write it for you; just supply me with all the necessary details. For further information concerning copywriting, please read an earlier “post” of mine, “Can you help me with my English language writing?

All I ask in return for offering my service is a small donation; whatever you think appropriate for completed work. As usual, if you have any work to submit, please contact me via my email address: matthew@cymru3117.fsnet.co.uk. You can also, of course, leave constructive comments on this blog.

Thanks for reading, speak to you again soon.

Can you help me with my English language writing?

Yes, most definitely!

If you need help writing your essay, CV (résumé), business/personal letters, business cards, brochures, ads., flyers, leaflets or website/blog text, then you have arrived at the correct place.

First, I’ll proofread and edit your draft for – spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. Then I’ll also, if need be, offer additional help, advice and suggestions to improve the writing.

However, which is something new to the service I offer, I’m also willing to write the entire piece of work but, it must be short; definitely no essays! Why, you might ask. Two reasons: first, essays can be rather long, and secondly, which is my main objection, they should most certainly be your OWN work! So please don’t ask. If unsure whether your particular piece of text qualifies, just ask. All you need to do is supply me with details of the content e.g. the purpose, your audience, keywords (extremely important, especially if Internet related), and rough details of the message you wish to convey; the more information you can offer, the better. Then I’ll work my magic!

So try my service, you won’t be disappointed; you can check my CV, if you like. All I ask for in return is a small donation; whatever you can afford.

Looking forward to hearing from you. If you have any work to submit, questions or comments, you can contact me, via email, at: matthew@cymru3117.fsnet.co.uk, or leave a comment on this blog.

Thanks for reading. Diolch yn fawr.

Why did you decide to write this blog on proofreading and editing?

Another good question! If you missed my last “post”: “What was the motivation for writing this blog on proofreading and editing?,” you may prefer to read that first.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a remarkable talent – a good “eye for detail.” To be more precise, to notice mistakes or flaws in everyday life e.g. (I should consult my teenage diaries to help my memory!) detail missing or something included that shouldn’t be; colours or patterns not matching and even correcting people’s speech i.e. bad grammar or if they make contradictions. I suspect many people reading this or whom know me think I’m a little too precise or, to use a more fitting word – pedantic. However, we are all unique human beings, so consequently I’m not going to let it bother me! Anyway, there are advantages to all this.

On the positive side, as far as people are concerned, this facet of my nature should delight them; this “skill” can be used most effectively in checking their writings for errors. Proofreading and editing text is what I do best i.e. looking for mistakes and suggest improvements in spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and, most importantly … does the writing make sense? Obviously, extremely important! In plain words, if what you write cannot be properly understood by others, how can you possibly convey your message effectively? The answer, of course, is you can’t! Consequently, doesn’t it sound logical to use a proofreading and editing service such as mine? Please say yes! Otherwise I’m just wasting my time! Seriously though, if you want to convey a good impression, for example to a prospective employer i.e. CV (résumé); to readers of your website, blog or an advertisement; or to the recipient of a business/personal letter, then let me help you in that quest. In return, I only request a donation; whatever you think I’m worth! So go on, give me the opportunity to prove myself. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

That’s all for now; looking forward to hearing from you. If you have any work to submit, questions or comments, please feel free to contact me, via email, at: matthew@cymru3117.fsnet.co.uk. You can also, of course, leave comments on this blog.

Thanks for reading. Hwyl (Bye).

Donate button installed, at last!

I’ve just installed a “donate button” on my blog; not an easy task! Been working on how to use the PayPal code, which is generated on their site by filling in a few details, for several days. You are not allowed to use Javascript in WP.com, so the procedure is a little convoluted. Anyway, as you can see for yourself, everything is working perfectly. I’m very pleased with my work!

If you would like to know how it’s done, just ask!

What was the motivation for writing this blog on proofreading and editing?

Good question; I’m glad you asked!

I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing; they are passions of mine. Reading material over the years has been a diverse range of non-fictional subjects e.g. astronomy, Welsh history and language, science, space travel, English language (correct use), philosophy, and computing. Although I’ve never written a creative masterpiece, my writings have been numerous i.e. personal and business letters and emails, essays, but my favourite of all are the teenage diaries I kept for 5 years; which, incidentally, haven’t been read for many years. Maybe I’ll have time to read them one day; should be quite interesting!

Altruism is another reason for this blog; I really enjoy helping people. If anyone is unhappy with their writings, then please, by all means, contact me. Let’s not forget that making friends is also an important reason; friendships equate to trust, consequently we will be able to achieve more.

Last, but not least, money is also a strong motivation for maintaining this blog. All I ask in exchange for proofreading and editing your work is a small donation; we all have financial commitments.

Please don’t think that I’m bragging by telling you about what I’ve done over the years. It’s, hopefully, giving a clearer picture of myself; when people start to leave comments on the blog, the conversation will include others besides me. I certainly don’t want to “hog the blog!” I want to hear what you have to say. So come on!

As per usual, if you have any feedback, whatsoever, please do contact me.

Bye for now. Hwyl!

Hi everyone,

Please accept my apologies for inconsistencies and weird happenings on my blog. I’m in the process of using WordPress for the first time; today I imported one of my blogs from Blogger, where I’ve been resident for the past 3 years.

Things will improve soon!

Do you require proofreading and editing of your writings?

Filed under: Proofreading & editing — Matthew @ 1:31 pm

If so, look no further! I can proofread most of your writing work, whether it is personal or business e.g. letters, CVs (résumés), websites, blogs and advertisements. I will check spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. The way I see it, is like this: people fall into 2 writing categories. The first category concerns those who know their writings are badly written, but choose to ignore it, for whatever reason. The second category concerns those who have no idea that what they have written is, at the very least, amateurish and at worst, unintelligible. It is this category that I feel most sorry for; they are oblivious to their shortcomings. If these people had an inkling that something was amiss with their writings, I’m more that confident that they would take immediate steps to rectify the situation.

Answer this question: “Does it really matter if what is written looks crude?” In my opinion, I would answer this question with a resounding, “Yes!” Why? Well, if you, for example, were reading a blog and there were several, simple mistakes concerning incorrect spelling and grammar, would you honestly, seriously accept what was being said? I wouldn’t! I just leave and move on to the next blog where, hopefully, the situation has improved.

Don’t misunderstand me, as I have already mentioned on this blog, I’m not an English language expert, by any means. However, I truly endeavour to write to the best of my ability, whatever it may be e.g. emails, letters, blogs or website text. When I make a mistake, which occasionally happens, I’m very pleased if someone points it out to me; I still sometimes misuse “who” and “whom.” Who doesn’t? Or is it “whom”? Just kidding! The point I’m making here is this: I’m only human too, like everyone else! However, having said that, I know I’m competent enough to proofread and edit small quantities of everyday prose; I’m more than able to help you with your text.

You may be wondering why I use the phrase “small quantities.” Let me explain. As I’m only asking for a donation for completed work, surely it makes sense for me to request limited quantities of work, otherwise it wouldn’t be worth me bothering; I have bills to pay too! Having said that, if someone reading this blog has something more substantial to be proofread and edited, then I’m sure we can come to an agreement on an appropriate price; just ask!

As usual, I’m looking forward to hearing from you. If you have any work to submit, questions or comments, any feedback whatsoever, please feel free to contact me, via email, at: matthew@cymru3117.fsnet.co.uk. You can also, of course, leave comments on this blog, which would be most appreciated. Thanks for reading; speak to you again soon!

My Curriculum Vitae (résumé).

Filed under: Achievements & Skills — Matthew @ 11:29 pm

Hi again, here’s my condensed CV as promised. I have included much more than mere writing experience, as I wanted to give a broader view of my skills to prove I am more than capable of producing quality work. Consequently, I have included university and other skills i.e. essay writing, research, IT and more. Furthermore, I’m continually expanding my knowledge of writing; I firmly believe one is never too old to learn. I hope this information gives a clearer picture of the type of person you would be dealing with.

As always, if you have any questions whatsoever please contact me. Thanks for reading.

CV

EDUCATION

1998 – 2002 University of Glamorgan: BA (Hons) History & Welsh Studies 2:1

University subjects: as a combined studies’ student. I studied a majority of history and Welsh modules (including Welsh language) plus a variety of independent research projects e.g. Owain Glyndŵr and native Welsh castles. I also worked extensively with computers.

1997 WMCE Treforest

City & Guilds Level 1 – IT Computers & Computing.

Skills

Computer and IT Literate:

Research

Internet and IT based research skills.

I am confident that I can make effective use of web/Internet technologies to compile thorough information on most topics.

Libraries/Journals and paper based information skills.

My enthusiasm for information/research is proven by the fact that I planned and chose 4 independent research projects (mini dissertations) throughout the duration of my degree. As a result, I am confident that I am methodical, meticulous and able to compile large amounts of data and information into simple, understandable formats; e.g. compiled field study reports of 25 native Welsh castles into a 3000 word essay.

IT

Microsoft Office (working knowledge) especially Word, and intermediate keyboard skills. Advanced knowledge of the Internet. Extensive, practical experience of using the Linux operating system, which I am currently using and have done for the past 2 years.

Java Programming Basic knowledge.

Web Design Intermediate knowledge.

Personal Skills:

Thorough and meticulous eye for detail

I am frequently asked, by family and friends, to proofread text as I have an excellent, scrupulous eye for detail.

Perseverance

I completed my degree with a 2:1 grade and maintained my family commitments.

Effective planning and time management

The combined studies degree programme allowed me to plan my own agenda. This, out of necessity, required me to be more autonomous and to research the modules more thoroughly to ensure I designed a coherent programme that suited my research and analytical preferences. In fact, I prefer to work with the minimum of supervision.

Intellectual challenge

This is my main motivation in life; studying at university – late in life – being a prime example.

Introduction to "Write Service."

Hi, and welcome to my new blog (I also have others). If you require help with the written English language, then you have found the write service! (get it?) This blog is for people whom already have a thorough understanding of the English language, and not for those learning the language; that would require more time than I can afford, sorry.

Email your small quantity of work (as an attachment, if necessary) or website URL and I will contact you after making the necessary changes; if any are indeed needed. I’m not an English language expert, by any means, but I do have enough experience of at least everyday writing, and I only ask for a donation! Furthermore, I also have knowledge of academic writing, having studied at university for 4 years (1998-2002), mainly writing essays. Although my expertise lies with “British English”, I can tackle all English language styles.

Looking forward to hearing from you. If you have any work to submit, questions or comments, please feel free to contact me, via email, at: matthew@cymru3117.fsnet.co.uk. You can also, of course, leave comments on this blog.

My next “post” will probably contain a condensed version of my CV (résumé). Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Diolch yn fawr iawn.
